Contains 41 diaries covering the years 1840-1894. The diaries span the years White attended Phillips Exeter Academy, Yale College, and Harvard Law School. The diaries also cover White's legal apprenticeship under Robert Rantoul and during his service as a Judge of the Probate Court in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. The diaries are especially descriptive about events and personages of the day touching on such topics as school work and environment, fugitive slaves, politics and politicians, the war with Mexico, legal study and practice, friends and family. The 14 account books cover the years 1853-1890 and describe his legal practice, its expenses and income, and the accounting of various trust funds for which he was executor.

White was born in Quincy, Mass. on 9 Nov. 1821. He fitted for college under the instruction of William M. Cornell and at Phillips Exeter Academy. He graduated at Yale College in 1848, and from Harvard Law School in 1850; afterwards studying in the Boston law office of Robert Rantoul, Esq.
